Dawson City
When we left Whitehorse we traveled to Dawson City. This was the sight of the Klondike gold rush. The town was established in 1898 to support the miners and take advantage of the gold that they found. They have tried to keep the town as original as possible, the side walks are still made of wood and the street are still unpaved. It is on the banks of the Yukon River.
We took a nice diner cruise one night and enjoyed it very much. Once you get to Dawson City you must take a small ferry over the Yukon to get to the Top of The World Highway that goes to Chicken, AK. We were supposed to take that route and camp in Chicken, but the road was washed out again. The have had much rain in the area and have had trouble keeping the road open in one area just into Alaska. So we had to go back to Whitehorse and we camped at the Great Canadian Super store along with four other units. We all got together for a dinner of moose stew, salad, corn muffins and cherry pieand ice-cream.
This detour caused us to drive about an addition 500 miles
